Despite the fact that Rueben can't talk the way most people can, they are very very animated and loves to meet new people. They use a combination of sign language (ASL) and the pictograms they create above their neck (see below for more info) to express themselves and tell stories. They are always willing to help those in need, but can sometimes be taken advantage of because they're gullible enough to believe anything anyone tells them. If they find out they're being tricked, they'll cut ties with that person while they sulk for a few days. Almost like a cross between a young child and college art student, Rueben puts off all work till the last minute, more focused on having as much fun as they can. 

History: Created in 1903 for the worlds fair, Rueben was the first automaton to be completely self-operating AND have a mind of their own. People enjoyed watching Rueben stumble around and use different devices to show off how "smart" they were. These devices included things such as tinker toys and a piano. They figured out they could control electricity around the 1930s, and once they got the hang of it, they left their maker in search of a life of their own making. It was at this time that they fell into a rabbit hole and arrived in a world that seemed perfect for a being such as them. They explored this new world, eventually finding a scientist who helped them develop their 'human' form, and popped through to the human world now and again to see what it had to offer. They watched the styles and trends go by. They went to school sometimes to pass the time (they never finished, mostly due to flunking since they hardly ever did their homework). Around the 1990s, after many other tries, they secured a job shelving books and helping patrons in a Fabella City Library and have been there ever since (it was the only job that didn't mind them showing up late or reading while on the clock). Rueben has no future goals except to make Zoey as happy as they can, meet lots of new people, and to continue to watch the world evolve and change.

Can they keep a human form? Or a semi human form?: Yes, quite easily, but if they get stressed out or their head gets wet, they'll short circuit and revert back to normal. (Their 'head' is like their body, metal and gears and such on the inside, but it doesn't connect all the way to the body.) They are still mute in human form and rely on sign language to communicate. They prefer their normal form. It's less 'constricting'. Yes, they have eyes in their human form, but they're made of metal and shine in the light, so they prefer to keep them hidden under the shade of their snazzy snapbacks.

Extras: To be drawn: what Rueben looks like under their skin. Rueben is so heavy because under their latex like skin covering is a metal bone structure. Where their heart/lungs/stomach would be is the mechanism that keeps Rueben 'alive'. An automaton is an self-operating machine. Rueben does NOT run on electricity. They can control electricity by funneling it through their metal frame and manipulating it where their head should be. They can create complex shapes, but usually stick to simple images/keyboard characters as they use less energy. They prefer to use images/symbols but will spell things out if need be. They see by sensing the electromagnetic waves given off naturally by people/animals/things and are not hindered by this at all. They do not eat.

RP Example:

Two eyes appeared above Rueben's neck and they rolled in their electric sockets. /Whatever./ They signed. They didn't have time for this nonsense about who was dating who and who cheated on who and who murdered who. It was much too complicated and Rueben couldn't stand sitting still for that long. Their hands flew into motion again as their head presented a ":/" face. /Just tell me who survives in the end, and I'll be good./
